Straight Questions and Answers for Kids About What Happens When Their Parents Divorce

INTRODUCTION: Matt and Katie are both in Mr. Taylor's 4th grade class. They have been friends since Matt's family moved into Katie's neighborhood a few years ago.

One day in class, Mr. Taylor gave an assignment for the students to find out all they could about a social issue. Mr. Taylor told the students to find a partner and to be ready to present a report in one week.

The students quickly found their partners and Matt and Katie decided they would work together. "What area should we cover?", Katie asked Matt. "How about pollution and the environment?" "No Katie. Everyone's going to do that."

Matt became very quiet. Then he said, "My mom and dad are going to get a divorce, and I'd like to find out what's going to happen." Katie thought this was a good area to research and they agreed to meet at Katie's house after school.

Both kids were wizards on the computer and decided they'd start their research on the computer and maybe interview some people about divorce.

Katie's aunt, Lisa, was a judge in family court. So the kids sent her the following questions and she sent back the answers.
